Uncertain Worth gives all your units an average Ld of 7.5, and this can be re-rolled with various special rules and icons. The two big mechanics unique to the army are Uncertain Worth (where each of your units has a random Ld between 5 and 10) and Demagogue Devotions (where your leader gets an upgrade which changes how your army works, or which units are available). Everything starts at BS2, but can be given a 10-point upgrade to BS3, which usually brings it to the same points-cost as the Guard equivalent. You then have additional units like mutant hordes, marauders, disciples (a variant of Veterans) and a few bits from the extended chaos range. Most of the vehicles are the same, and your infantry operate in platoons.

Superficially, the list is a modified Guard list. It’s a replacement for the three different Renegades lists found in the Siege of Vraks series (which got steadily more corrupted as the series went on) and for the earlier Lost and the Damned list from the 3rd edition Codex: Eye of Terror. The R&H list is found in Imperial Armour 13: War Machines of the Lost and the Damned. So, here’s an overview of the list from this point of view - as a comparison to the Guard list. The list needs to be appreciated for it’s strengths, but then I can also see why so many people are comparing it to Guard - it fills the same role they used to use Guard for in 6th (cannon fodder), most of the equipment is the same, and a lot of the structural organisation is the same.

Many of the debates centre around comparing the list to the Astra Militarum/Imperial Guard codex, and many people disagree and say that it should be seen as a totally new/separate list.

I’ve seen some interesting reviews and discussions online about the Renegades and Heretics list from Forge World.
